Brits prone to snack attacks

Britain is a nation of 'snack addicts', with one in 10 people regularly eating them instead of proper meals, according to a survey out today. Women are the worst culprits, with half admitting they regularly snack on junk food, compared to around a quarter of men. The survey also revealed the nation's favourite snack is a packet of crisps (47%), followed by chocolate (21%) and biscuits (12%). However, a few healthy foods did sneak into the top 10, with fruit at number four, nuts at number eight and raw vegetables at number nine.

Nutritionist Suzannah Olivier said, 'We are clearly a nation of snack addicts. However healthily we eat at meal times, it is very easy to
