DETECTIVES are urging the public to assist them in their hunt for a man who tried to rob a woman in broad daylight.
Coach Boston Bag ReplicaThe young woman was walking along Merthyr Mawr Road (North), Bridgend, shortly after noon when she was approached by a man who tried to grab her handbag.
She resisted the attack and he fled empty-handed.
But Detective Inspector Paul James, of Bridgend CID, said the incident, which happened last Friday, should be taken seriously and urged the public to come forward with any information.
``On this occasion no theft occurred,'' he said.
``However, it would be a scary event for anyone to have to experience.
``I appeal to anybody who sees a person or people hanging around and acting suspiciously, or who knows the person responsible for this offence to contact us before they hurt anybody in their attempt to steal.''
On June 6, two 73-year-old women had their handbags snatched while walking in Bridgend.
One of the OAPs, who was attacked on the corner of Green Street and Meadow Street, suffered a broken arm.
It is believed she fell to the ground as the culprit grabbed her shoulder bag. Hours later another pensioner was mugged outside the Heathfield Nursing Home on Merthyr Mawr Road.
Det Insp James said: ``I am keeping an open mind as to whether there's a connection between this latest incident and the previous ones.''
